Tet at VFIS

International as well as local culture is among the most important topics in the learning program at VFIS. “Tet” (Lunar New Year), a celebration considered the most prominent in Vietnamese culture, is a part of cultural education at the school.

True to its meaning, “get together,” the week before Tet was filled with many communal activities, such as making decorations, rehearsing songs and taking Happy New Year pictures. The most awaited event of the year, the Tet Fair was held on January 17th, a joint effort between parents and the school.   Parents joined teachers and students at VFIS to enjoy together a variety of activities related to Vietnamese culture. The Fair started with a flurry of performances showcasing the students’ talents and effort. Next, the students had fun with joining different play stations with Vietnamese traditional games and food. These stations are a modified version of a traditional Tet Fair market, imitating those seen in most of the villages. The students indeed had a lot of fun, but they did not forget their responsibility to show compassion for others. The Student Council had set up a charity box to ask for donations for charity work after the Tet holidays, an initiative supported by the school and Parents’ Association. This is a very practical and meaningful action, especially when it happens during Tet, the time to give and to share.

It was a wonderful day with many sweet memories. We wish our beloved students a wonderful Tet holiday with family and friends!
